Hard hat detection
Detects workers with no visible hard hat; can distinguish by hard hat color.

Hard hat detection identifies the body keypoints and head position of every worker in the area, then looks for a hard hat color on the top of the head. You can select a specific color or accept all common hard hat colors, so on sites where visitors wear white and workers wear yellow, the alert goes to the right person. The decision is based on the person’s last several images rather than a single frame, and no event is created until the dwell time has passed after the person enters the area. It gives safety officers instant, image-based evidence on construction sites, production lines, warehouses and energy sites.
How it works
Draw the hard-hat-required area on the image.
Select the hard hat color: any hard hat color, or white, yellow, orange, red, blue, fluorescent green or green.
ProVife identifies each person’s head position from body keypoints and looks for the hard hat color on top of the head.
The decision is based on the person’s last several images; a shadow in a single frame does not produce an event.
If the person is still seen without a hard hat after the dwell time, an event is created and the person is reported once.
Settings
| Hard hat color | The hard hat color to accept; if different colors are in use, select any color. |
|---|---|
| Area | The zone where the hard hat rule applies. |
| Dwell | The time that must pass after a person enters the area before they are checked. |
| Analytics hours | Running the rule according to shift hours. |
| Severity | The level at which violation events are shown. |
What it produces
- Hard hat check event (analytics.hardhat.missing): the hard hat color searched for and the color ratio in the head region.
- A cropped image of the person and an event image marking them with a red box.
- A Hard hat or No hard hat label over each person in live video.
- Live number of people in the area.
What you can do with the event
- A “Please put on your hard hat” announcement over the site speaker.
- A WhatsApp notification with the person’s image to the safety officer.
- Turning on the warning light at the entrance turnstile via a smart relay.
- Exporting violations by date and camera to a PDF report.
- Forwarding the event via MQTT to safety management software.
Where it is used
Construction
Workers without hard hats around tower cranes and under scaffolding are reported instantly.
Manufacturing
On heavy industry lines, the hard hat rule is enforced continuously throughout the shift.
Energy
At power plants and switchyards, visitor and worker hard hat colors are monitored separately.
Mining
Personnel passing the mine entrance without a hard hat are reported to the shift supervisor.
Camera placement
- Position the camera to see people’s heads slightly from above and from the front, not from directly overhead.
- The person’s head must be large enough to make out easily in the image; use a narrow lens for distant views.
- Make sure floor, wall and machine paint in the same color as the hard hats does not sit behind people’s heads.
- Entry points and passage gates are the most effective spots for checks.
