People counting zones and capacity
Combines counts from multiple cameras to monitor live occupancy and capacity in a building, floor or hall.

People counting zones define places people enter and leave, such as a building entrance, cafeteria, floor or hall, as a single counting zone. Counting scenarios from multiple cameras can be linked to each zone; the number of people inside is calculated by subtracting exits from entries. For cameras facing the opposite direction, entry and exit can be swapped. In zones made up only of live counting scenarios, the total of people seen by the cameras is used. The count resets every day at the time you set. When zone capacity is reached, ProVife produces a capacity event once, and this event triggers smart building scenarios.
How it works
On the People counting zones screen, create a new zone and give it a name.
Add cameras and counting scenarios to the zone as counters; swap the direction for a camera facing the other way.
Enter the capacity as a number of people; zero capacity turns off the warning.
Set the daily reset time.
ProVife continuously calculates the number of people inside and produces a capacity event when capacity is reached.
Settings
| Counters | Cameras and counting scenarios linked to the zone; up to 32 counters per zone. |
|---|---|
| Swap direction | Swapping entry and exit on a camera facing the other direction. |
| Capacity | The maximum number of people the zone can hold. |
| Reset time | The time the count resets each day. |
| Section | The site, building or floor the zone belongs to in the organization tree. |
What it produces
- The number of people entering, leaving and inside for each zone.
- Capacity event when capacity is reached: zone name, people inside and capacity.
- Values that match reports exactly, because counts are produced from recorded events.
- The total of people seen by cameras in live counting scenarios.
What you can do with the event
- An informational announcement over the entrance speaker when capacity is reached.
- Controlling the entrance warning light or door lock with a smart device action.
- Capacity notifications to managers via WhatsApp.
- Forwarding the event via MQTT to the building management system.
Where it is used
Manufacturing
The number of people inside the cafeteria is monitored during shift changes.
Office
Floor and meeting room occupancy is reflected to building management in real time.
Events
The entrance team is alerted when hall capacity is reached.
Emergency management
The number of people remaining in the building during an evacuation is visible on a single screen.
Camera placement
- Place counting cameras at all entry and exit points of the zone; one uncovered door throws off the count inside.
- Use an overhead camera and a line for each door.
- Set the reset time to an hour when the zone is empty.
- Verify the counters over a few crossings with Try, then link them to the zone.
