Gathering and crowds
Creates a crowd event when the number of people in an area exceeds the threshold and stays there for the set time.

Gathering analytics continuously measures the number of people present in an area at the same time. When the count reaches the crowd threshold you set and stays at that level for the dwell time, ProVife creates a crowd event. Brief build-ups are filtered out by the threshold time, so only real gatherings are reported. Plazas, campus entrances, factory gates, waiting halls and areas in front of emergency exits are monitored with this analytic. The event includes the number of people seen at that moment and how long the gathering lasted; each person is marked in the event image.
How it works
Draw the area to monitor on the image.
Enter the crowd threshold as a number of people.
Set the dwell time; if the count stays at the threshold for this period, an event is created.
ProVife tracks each person in the area separately and writes the live count to the smart panel.
Use the repeat interval to set how often an ongoing crowd is reported again.
Settings
| Crowd threshold | The minimum number of people that must be in the area at the same time to trigger an event. |
|---|---|
| Dwell | How long the number of people must stay at the threshold. |
| Area | The zone where people are counted. |
| Repeat interval | The time between two notifications for an ongoing crowd. |
| Confidence threshold | A detection threshold that can be lowered for people who appear distant and small. |
What it produces
- Gathering event (analytics.crowd.detected): number of people and duration of the gathering.
- Event image with each person in the area marked.
- Live number of people on the smart panel.
- Events can be exported to a PDF report by date range.
What you can do with the event
- A guidance announcement over the speaker for a gathering in front of an emergency exit.
- Alerting the control room with a critical pop-up window.
- Sending the event image to the site supervisor via WhatsApp.
- Forwarding the event via MQTT to the building management system.
Where it is used
Public sector
Unexpected gatherings at plazas and government building entrances are sent to the monitoring center.
Manufacturing
Off-shift gatherings at the factory gate are reported to the management team.
Education
Build-ups at campus entrances and in corridors reach the security unit.
Event venues
Crowd density in front of the stage and around turnstiles is passed to field teams.
Camera placement
- Mount the camera high enough, at a slanted angle, that people do not overlap.
- Draw the area to cover the spot where gatherings are expected, without taking in the whole road.
- In large areas, split the zone into sections with multiple cameras.
- Remove backlight and shiny floor reflections from the field of view.
