Smoke detection

Smoke detection catches the sign a fire often gives before flames appear. ProVife examines the image in the area you choose at regular intervals and creates an event when the smoke detection persists for the dwell time. The consecutive confirmation count filters out short-lived conditions such as steam, dust clouds or passing fog. It is suited to large spaces where smoke spreads along the ceiling, cable trays, open storage areas, facilities at the edge of forests and machine rooms. The event starts the siren, announcement and notification chain in smart building scenarios and can be searched in recordings under a smoke heading.

How it works

  1. Draw the area where smoke could be seen; cover places where smoke builds up, such as under the ceiling and above machines.

  2. Enter the dwell time; if the smoke detection persists for this period, an event is created.

  3. Use the consecutive confirmation count to filter out short-lived steam and dust.

  4. ProVife examines the area at regular intervals and follows the detection over time.

  5. When the conditions are met, an event is created and the linked fire scenario runs.

Settings

DwellHow long the smoke detection must persist to trigger an event.
Consecutive confirmationHow many times in a row smoke must be detected, to filter out steam and dust.
Confidence thresholdThe minimum confidence required to accept a smoke detection.
AreaThe zone where smoke is searched for.
Repeat intervalThe re-notification interval for ongoing smoke.

What it produces

  • Smoke detection event: confidence value, how long the smoke was seen and the zone.
  • Event image marking the part where the smoke was seen.
  • A smoke label in live video.
  • Events can be exported to a PDF report by date and camera.

What you can do with the event

  • Activating building sirens and warning strobes via a smart relay.
  • An evacuation announcement over the speakers.
  • WhatsApp and email notifications with images to the technical team and managers.
  • Switching alarm mode to triggered and opening the floor plan.
  • Publishing the event via MQTT to the building automation system; systems such as ventilation can be controlled with this message.

Where it is used

Manufacturing

Smoke rising in machine rooms and compressor rooms is reported to the maintenance team.

Energy

Smoke forming in transformer and cable galleries is sent to the control room.

Logistics

Smoke rising from open storage yards reaches the night shift.

Hospitality

At hotels and campgrounds near forests, smoke rising from the surroundings is spotted.
