Speeding
Calculates vehicle speed from the real distance between two lines; records vehicles over the limit with an image and plate.

Speeding analytics works with two lines on the road and the real distance between them. ProVife maps the four ends of the lines to the road plane, tracks each vehicle’s position on the ground in meters and calculates speed from the change in position over time. The vehicle does not need to be seen on both lines at the same moment, so brief interruptions do not spoil the measurement. A vehicle exceeding the speed limit is recorded as an event, appears with a red label in live video, and the event includes an image of the vehicle. When speed measurement is turned on in a plate reading scenario, the event also includes the plate; for example, 7ABC123, 64 km/h, limit 50 km/h.
How it works
Draw lines A and B in the image at two known points on the road, such as road markings.
Enter the real distance between the lines in meters.
Enter the speed limit in km/h.
ProVife tracks each vehicle’s position on the ground and calculates speed from the change in position over time.
An event is created for a vehicle over the limit; in a plate scenario, the event is recorded together with the plate.
The latest measurements, the number of vehicles measured and the number of violations appear on the live screen.
Settings
| Lines A and B | Two known points on the road; the measurement is taken between these two lines. |
|---|---|
| Distance between lines | The real distance between the two lines; from 1 to 300 meters. |
| Speed limit | The value that creates an event when exceeded, in km/h. |
| Detection object | The vehicle type to measure; all vehicles by default. |
| Also measure speed while reading plates | Adding speed to the plate event in a plate scenario. |
What it produces
- Speed measurement event (analytics.speed.violation): measured speed, limit, amount over the limit and direction.
- Plate and registered user in a plate scenario.
- A cropped image of the vehicle and a marked event image.
- A red speed label for vehicles over the limit in live video.
- List of latest measurements and total number of violations.
What you can do with the event
- Turning on the roadside warning sign via a smart relay on a violation.
- A WhatsApp message with plate and image to the property management.
- Sharing violations in a monthly PDF report.
- Forwarding events via MQTT to traffic management software.
Where it is used
Residential complexes
Residents’ vehicles exceeding the speed limit on internal roads are reported with their plates.
Factories
The speed of forklifts and trucks on site roads is monitored for workplace safety.
Schools
Speed violations in the school slow zone become reports that can be shared with the city.
Ports
The speed rule is enforced continuously on internal roads of the container yard.
Camera placement
- Position the camera to see the length of the road from above, at an angle close to parallel to the road.
- Draw lines A and B at fixed markers whose distance can be measured.
- Choose a section where the vehicle is continuously visible in the measurement zone, not blocked by trees or poles.
- For measurement with plates, mind the distance at which the plate can be read.
