Queue length and waiting time
Measures the number of people in the queue and each person’s waiting time; reports the longest and average wait.

Queue analytics measures how many people are in the waiting area in front of checkouts and counters, and how long each person has been waiting. ProVife tracks every person entering the area with a tracking ID and shows the time elapsed since entry over the person in live video. An event is created when the number of people in the queue reaches the threshold and stays at that level for the dwell time; the event states the number of people, the longest wait and the average wait. This way, the decision to open a new checkout is based on data, not guesswork. It is suited to supermarkets, banks, hospital registration desks and public service points.
How it works
Draw the waiting area where the queue forms.
Enter the queue threshold as a number of people.
Set the dwell time; if the number of people stays at the threshold for this period, an event is created.
ProVife tracks each person’s waiting time and shows it in live video.
The event includes the number of people in the queue and the longest and average waiting times.
Settings
| Queue threshold | The minimum number of people that must be in the queue to trigger an event. |
|---|---|
| Dwell | How long the queue threshold must be met continuously to trigger an event. |
| Area | The waiting zone where the queue forms. |
| Repeat interval | The re-notification interval for an ongoing queue. |
| Analytics hours | For example, running only during opening hours. |
What it produces
- Queue detection event (analytics.queue.length): number of people, longest wait and average wait.
- Waiting time over each person in live video.
- Live number of people in the queue on the smart panel.
- Event image with the people in the queue marked.
What you can do with the event
- A WhatsApp message to the store manager with the note “open a new checkout.”
- A checkout call announcement over the speaker in the staff area.
- Turning on the call light above the checkout via a smart relay.
- Forwarding queue events via MQTT to staff scheduling software.
Where it is used
Supermarkets
When the checkout queue grows, backup staff are called to the register.
Banking
Waiting times at branch counters are measured throughout the day.
Healthcare
Waiting times at hospital registration and outpatient clinics are monitored.
Public sector
Citizen waiting times at government service buildings are reported.
Camera placement
- Position the camera to see the full length of the queue, at a high angle where people do not overlap.
- Draw the area only over the waiting line; leave out the person being served at the checkout.
- For long queues, choose an angle that also sees the end of the line.
- Remove reflections from checkout screens and advertising displays from the field of view.
