Parking duration
Matches plates read by the entry and exit cameras and calculates how long the vehicle stayed in the parking lot.

Parking duration links the plate reading scenarios at entry and exit points. The time a plate is read by the entry camera is stored; when the same plate is read by the exit camera, ProVife calculates the time between the two reads and writes it to the exit event in hours and minutes. For example, when the vehicle with plate 8XYZ456 leaves, the event shows how many hours it stayed in the lot. Stay durations of visitor, subscriber and service vehicles are monitored without any additional parking software. Entry records with no recorded exit are deleted automatically after one week.
How it works
Create a plate reading scenario on the entry lane camera and set the Parking option to Entry.
Create a second scenario on the exit lane camera and set the Parking option to Exit.
When the entry camera reads the plate, the entry time is stored on the server.
When the same plate is read at the exit, the stay duration is calculated and written to the exit event.
Entry records without an exit are cleared after one week.
Settings
| Parking role | Whether the scenario is an entry point or an exit point. |
|---|---|
| Plates to report | Whether the duration is calculated for all vehicles or only for list matches. |
| Confidence threshold | Keeping it high is recommended so the same plate matches at entry and exit. |
| Barrier relay | Opening the barrier for the allow list at entry and exit. |
What it produces
- Entry event: plate and parking entry information.
- Exit event: plate and time spent in the parking lot, in hours and minutes.
- The vehicle’s user, if the plate is registered.
- Entry and exit passes on the License Plate Recognition screen.
What you can do with the event
- Forwarding stay durations via MQTT to billing software.
- Listing long-stay vehicles in a PDF report.
- A WhatsApp notification to security when a block-listed vehicle exits.
- Opening the barrier for the allow list at the exit.
Where it is used
Shopping malls
Stay durations of vehicles in the visitor parking lot are monitored without additional hardware.
Hospitals
Time patient and visitor vehicles spend in the parking lot is reported.
Logistics
Loading times of trucks entering the site are measured from entry and exit plates.
Hotels
Time guest vehicles spend in the parking lot gives the front desk useful information.
Camera placement
- Place the entry and exit cameras on separate lanes, each seeing traffic in one direction only.
- Read the plate from a similar angle and distance on both cameras.
- Choose the point where the vehicle stops in front of the barrier as the reading area.
- For two-lane entrances, use a separate camera for each lane.
