Plate-based access control
Manages vehicle access with allow and block lists; opens the barrier via a relay for authorized plates.

Plate-based access control compares the plate read with ProVife’s plate lists and decides based on the result. Each plate is defined as allow list, block list or registered only; each record includes the vehicle’s user and a description. When an allow-listed plate is read, the camera’s relay output or a selected smart relay is triggered for the set time and the barrier opens. Even if the scenario is set to report only unknown vehicles, the barrier still opens for authorized vehicles. Because the smart relay works over the local network, access continues even without an internet connection. Lists are stored encrypted on the server.
How it works
On the Plate lists screen, enter plates as allow list, block list or registered, with a user name and description.
In the plate reading scenario, use the Plates to report option to set which passes become events.
For the barrier relay, read the camera’s relay output from the camera and select it, or specify a smart relay and data point.
Enter the relay time in seconds; the barrier stays open for this period.
You can also open the barrier manually from the License Plate Recognition screen when needed.
Settings
| Plate lists | Allow list, block list and registered-only plates; each row includes a user and description. |
|---|---|
| Plates to report | All plates, block list only, not on the allow list, or allow list only. |
| Barrier relay | The camera’s relay output or a smart relay on the local network. |
| Relay time | How long the barrier stays open; from 1 to 30 seconds. |
| Parking lot | Whether the access point is an entry, an exit or a read-only point. |
What it produces
- Plate recognition event enriched with the list type and user name.
- Information showing that the barrier was opened, and the relay used.
- A barrier relay error as a system event if the relay cannot be activated.
- Latest passes at the access point on the License Plate Recognition screen.
What you can do with the event
- Opening the barrier via the relay for the allow-listed vehicle with plate 7ABC123.
- A critical pop-up window and siren at the security booth for a block-listed plate.
- A WhatsApp notification with an image to the guard for a vehicle not on the allow list.
- The guard opening the barrier remotely with the Open gate button in the notification.
- Forwarding passes via MQTT to access control software.
Where it is used
Residential complexes
Residents’ vehicles enter without waiting via the allow list; guest vehicles are reported to the guard.
Factories
Supplier trucks are managed with the registered list, unwanted vehicles with the block list.
Parking lot
Subscriber vehicles enter by plate; block-listed vehicles with unpaid balances are reported to the operator.
Hospitals
Only allow-listed vehicles are admitted to the doctors’ parking lot.
Camera placement
- Place the reading camera a few yards ahead of the barrier so it sees the plate where the vehicle stops.
- Use separate cameras and scenarios for entry and exit lanes.
- Wire the relay to the “open” input of the barrier control board.
- For night reading, add infrared illumination aimed at the plate.
